Natalie Maines Pasdar

Natalie Maines is the lead singer for the alt-country band Dixie Chicks. Originally from Lubbock, Texas, Maines is the daughter of Tina May Maines and Lloyd Maines, a famed producer and country musician. After briefly attending both West Texas A&M and South Plains College, she auditioned for a vocal performance scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. Maines was awarded the scholarship in 1994. She would not complete her studies at Berklee either, leaving school to take over lead singer duties for Dixie Chicks in late 1995.

Among the Dixie Chicks' Grammy Awards is one for Album of the Year for Not Ready to Make Nice, the band's album after lead signer Maines' very public criticism of President George W. Bush in 2003. Maines' criticism proved too controversial for many country music fans resulting in decreased concert attendance and record sales for the Dixie Chicks.
