Slacker
Film
A day-in-the-life of old, alternative Austin. Misfits, UFO buffs, UT profs, Kennedy conspiracy theorists, anarchists and general slackers. The beauty of Linklater's first film effort is that while it operates within a linear temporal mode, there isn't an explicit, overarching narrative at work. Rather, the audience is moved from one quirky vignette to the next via the arrival and departures of the very Austin characters. Admittedly, this is an Austin almost unrecognizable to those arriving significantly post tech-boom, but it is a period still fondly recalled by many longtime (read "South of the River") residents.
