Man Down
Not just any man, THE man. Austin’s own adopted golden boy, Lance Armstrong crashed his bike during a five day race in Spain. The bad news, he was only 12 miles from the finish line, the even WORSE news is that he broke his collarbone. This was Armstrongs fourth race after coming out of retirement. What’s amazing is this the first time that he will be sidelined due to injury in his 17 year professional career. Lance is currently back in the states where he will undergo surgery. Hopefully it will be healed in time for him to compete in the Tour de France in July.
The Endorser
Everybody wants a piece of Michael Phelps, including myself. It seems that PureSport, a sports drink based in Austin, had the right idea – Get a piece of Phelps before he demolishes all type of Olympic Records and has big name Corporate sponsors knocking down his door. Michael and teammates Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen and Ian Crocker all signed on to endorse the Austin startup company last year. And now thanks to the Golden boy, the energy drink has become quite popular. Of course PureSport has used Michael’s star status to hock their drink plastering his face all over packaging. They also are lucky enough to get Michael seven days out of the year to which, according to CEO Michael Humphrey, ‘We book the hell out of him.
money money money money…..MONEY!
I know it’s been pointed out many times that I am in the wrong business, but every now and then it’s great to get a little reminder. Will Muschamp, who is the defensive coach for the UT longhorns is now the highest paid assistant coach in the country raking in nearly a million dollars a season. The raise was a move by Texas who was afraid of losing him to possible head coaching opportunities. The only bad part is that he has to wait it out for the head coaching position at UT, and it doesn’t look like Mack Brown will be retiring anytime soon. Who would want to retire doing something they love, and making a cool three million a year.
