Jason returns (for the umpteenth time)
The new Friday the 13th movie was the winner at the box office over the Valentine’s weekend. I guess it’s easier to make a move on your date during a scary movie. The old ‘I’m frightened so I’m going to put my hand on your lap,’ or the ‘lean in close hand/arm grab due to the music getting increasingly faster and higher pitched,’ never seems to fail. The movie raked in over 40 million on its opening weekend, which was directed by Marcus Nispel and produced by Michael Bay. (On a sidenote, every time I hear Michael Bay’s name, I can’t help but think of the song ‘End of an Act’ from the Team America: World Police Movie.) Friday the 13th was shot in Austin over at the film studios on 51st street. Also I’m just realizing this now as I write that the movie opened on a Friday the 13th. How convenient.
Did you get the Memo?

For all you Office space fans out there, (and I would think there would be a lot since the movie was shot here and Mike Judge resides here) the Paramount theatre is hosting an office space 10 year reunion event on Sunday. This is a chance for you to don your best Hawaiian shirt and put on an excess amount of flair to catch a special screening of the film. Expected to be at the screening are the following:
Mike Judge (Writer, Director, Everything-er)
Stephen Root (Milton)
Gary Cole (Bill Lumbergh)
John C. McGinley (Bob Slydell)
David Herman (Michael Bolten)
Ajay Naidu (Samir Nagheenanajar)
Paul Willson (Bob Porter)
Todd Duffey (Brian, Chotchskie’s waiter with the most Flair)
And Of course I can’t talk about Office Space without plugging the website I work for. Austin Star Map fills you in on some of the shooting locations of the movie. For their official launch party last year they held the soiree at the ‘Morningwood Apartment’s.’
I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. What. A. Great. Movie
Party Crasher
Dixie Chicks front woman Natalie Maines threw a Halloween party at her home in Los
Angeles and guess who showed up? Go on…..guess. If you guessed George Bush, you are sadly wrong, although that would have been a sight to see. If you guessed Michael Jackson, you must have cheated, but kudos to you anyway. He would have been one of the last people I thought would show up at a Halloween party since he is such a recluse. With Michael Jackson being a popular way to dress up for Halloween how can one be sure it’s the real one. I believe that is why the DJ at the party pulled out the tried, tested and true ‘Thriller Test.’ Only the real Michael could breeze flawlessly through the zombie dance sequence. Why is this news relevant? Well for one, Natalie is a local Austin home owner. And secondly, and quite frankly more importantly, it seemed like a great segue to link to this video that I can’t get enough of, of Mayor Will Wynn doing a portion of the thriller dance.
