Man Down

Not just any man, THE man.  Austin’s own adopted golden boy, Lance Armstrong crashed his bike during a five day race in Spain.  The bad news, he was only 12 miles from the finish line, the even WORSE news is that he broke his collarbone.  This was Armstrongs fourth race after coming out of retirement.  What’s amazing is this the first time that he will be sidelined due to injury in his 17 year professional career.  Lance is currently back in the states where he will undergo surgery.  Hopefully it will be healed in time for him to compete in the Tour de France in July.

My South by Southwest Schedule

I just wanted to make everyone jealous by showcasing all the shows I went to go and see during the SXSW festival.  This is my fourth year having a wristband, and it was still just as awesome as ever -  MINUS the part of not being able use my feet by Saturday night.

Wednesday:

Hey Negrita ( London)
Winter Gloves (Quebec)
Lindi Ortega (Toronto)
Rod Thomas (London)
Aqualung (Uk)
Hymns (Brooklyn)

Thursday:

Von Bondies (Detroit)
Oak Ridge Boys (Tennessee)
Airborne Toxic Event (Los Angeles)
Guggenheim Grotto (Ireland)
Stars Go Dim (Tulsa)
SleeperCar (El Paso)
Val Emmich (New York)

Friday:

Supersonic (Hungary)
Josh Charles (Brooklyn)
The Felice Brothers (New York)
Jason Isbell and the 400 unit (Alabama)
White Denim (Austin)
Can’t remember after that…bit of a blur.

Saturday:

Colin Moore (Montreal)
The Details (Winnipeg)
Tinted Windows (New York)
Immaculate Machine (Victoria)
Autum (Austin)
Youth Group (Australia)
Bedouin Soundclash (Toronto)

Also, I wanted to let it be known that I did get an invite to Perez Hilton’s One Night in Austin party, but I decided not to go because I wasn’t that overly interested in the acts he had lined up.  I know, I know, being a celebrity blogger I should have been there, but I couldn’t justify staying in one place all night, after I had purchased a wristband.  There is always next year….

Music

Murray and his Electric Copper hair

Murray and his Electric Copper hair

I will putting my celebrity sighting goggles on tomorrow, because I will actually be oot and aboot downtown since that is when the Music portion of South by Southwest kicks off.  I’m not important enough to have one of those fancy badges, but I did get my hands on a lowly wristband, so I will be making my rounds downtown to check out the scene.  Last year I caught personal glimpses of Neil Patrick Harris, Janeane Garofalo and THE bachelor but the most memorable star sighting was at some random no-name show where I saw Rhys Darby who plays the manager on Flight of the Conchords, I asked him if he was at the show to find New Zealand’s fifth most popular digi-folk paradists.  He didn’t find it as hilarious as I did…
